Pakistan hails NY Assembly resolution declaring Feb 5 as ‘Kashmir-American Day’

New York, February 07: The Foreign Office on Saturday said that the New York State Assembly’s decision to adopt a resolution marking Feb 5 as ‘Kashmir-American Day’ was a “welcome development”.
“The resolution appreciates the courage and perseverance of the Kashmiri people and recognises their unique cultural and religious identity. It also underscores that ‘the State of New York endeavours to champion human rights including the freedom of religion, movement, and expression for all Kashmiri people’,” FO spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudri was quoted as saying in a statement.

New Delhi, Feb 4 : Pakistan is scrambling to manage the fallout from its Supreme Court s ruling to free the Pakistani-origin, British national, accused in the 2002 beheading of American journalist Daniel Pearl and then shift him to a government rest house. But reacting to this move, 36 members of the US Congress have shot a letter to the Pakistani envoy in Washington, Asad Majeed Khan. They have urged Islamabad to review the acquittal. Nevertheless, in pursuit of justice for Pearl and the countless others who have been murdered by acts of terrorism, it is incumbent upon us to urge you to do your utmost to ensure that the Government of Pakistan conducts a full review of the acquittal in the case of Daniel Pearl, the letter said.

Washington DC [US], February 3 (ANI): A total of 36 members of the US Congress on Tuesday issued a letter to Pakistan s Ambassador to the United States, urging the country to undertake a full review of acquittal of the accused in the case of 2002 killing of American journalist Daniel Pearl.
In a letter to Pakistan envoy Asad Majeed Khan, the US lawmakers said, In the years since the tragic murder of Daniel Pearl, the US and Pakistan have maintained a robust partnership, particularly in the areas of security cooperation, energy, trade, and investment. We look forward to continuing to work with you to advance this relationship.
