Robert Niess and his kinsmen are deeply interested in the Elmwood Mansion, even 65 years since it passed from his family’s hands.
Born in York, he is the grandson of the prominent J. Edgar Small family who lived there and heard many stories about this landmark from his mother, Ann Small Niess. He has visited it many times after it passed from owner to owner. Today, Elmwood House, as the family calls it, is owned by Inch & Co., a construction company that has remodeled it as home for its real estate and property management divisions.
Niess has another interest – a vocation, really – that draws him to the mansion. He’s a principal in Chestnutt-Niess architectural firm and longtime architectural faculty member and vice dean of the Peter Behrens School of Arts, both in Germany.
Northern Regional Police now using state-of-the-art 3D virtual training system

A York County police department is the first in the nation to agree to lease a 3D virtual-reality training system for five years that officers have said feels just like real life.
Northern York County Regional Police tested the Wrap Reality system in January, and The York Dispatch was there to watch. You truly believe you re there, Chief Dave Lash said after the demonstration. Your mind believes it. Your heart rate goes up.
Northern Regional Police have contracted to use the training simulator system for five years at a total cost of $125,000, Lash said, for two officers at a time.
After selling mansion, UPMC sells former surgery center

UPMC has sold another facility located on the grounds of the former UPMC Memorial hospital in Spring Garden Township.
The hospital system and OSS Health have sold the three story, 42,000-square-foot former surgery center building at 1750 5th Ave. to Red Lion Controls.
The commercial real estate company, NAI CIR marketed the property in cooperation with the Ten-X Commercial Real Estate Auction platform. The property was auctioned and settled on March 31 for $2.4 million.
Red Lion provides solutions through communication, monitoring and control for industrial automation and networking, which enables companies to gain real-time data visibility. The company was founded in 1972.

The former Kmart property at Summerdale Plaza in East Pennsboro Township will be redeveloped into a Tractor Supply store and an AutoZone.

Plans are moving forward for casinos, stores and other business.
Penn National says that casinos in York and Berks counties are expected to be completed by the end of the year. The owners of Park Casino still have their eyes on the Shippensburg area and are moving forward with plans to build the casino on the sight of a former Lowes store.
