MANGALURU: Following numerous complaints regarding the complicated renewal process of trade licences, Mayor Diwakar on Wednesday directed officials to make the process simple and people-friendly.
Chairing his last ordinary council meeting, the mayor took note of the objections regarding the process directing officials to accept old property tax receipts vice new and also give time to provide additional documents required for the renewal process.
Commissioner Akshy Sridhar said aggrieved could directly contact him at his office if they still faced issues regarding renewal.
Corporator A C Vinayraj said due to the new system only 1000 renewals were done in the Fen=bruary month compared to 15,000 last year during the same period.
6 killed while disposing of explosives meant for quarrying in Karnataka

Chikkaballapur, Feb 23: Six people were killed when the gelatin sticks they were trying to dispose of exploded accidentally at a stone quarry site in a village early on Tuesday, police said.
The incident comes close on the heels of a similar blast at a quarry site in Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa s hometown of Shivamogga on January 22, which left six dead.
Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar, who represents the Chikkaballapur constituency visited the spot and said the bodies of the victims were badly mutilated and scattered all over the place.
Gangster Ravi Pujari remanded to police custody till March 9

Mumbai, Feb 23: Mumbai Sessions Court on Tuesday remanded gangster Ravi Pujari to police custody till March 9 in the 2016 Ghazali restaurant firing case.
Ravi Pujari is wanted in more than 49 cases in Mumbai.
Earlier on Saturday, a Bengaluru court granted the custody of Ravi Pujari to Mumbai Police.
Milind Bharambe said that Mumbai Police sought the custody of gangster Ravi Pujari, who is lodged in a Karanataka Jail, in connection with the 2016 Ghazali Hotel firing case.
Pujari, who was wanted in several cases, including ones related to heinous crimes like murder and extortion, was extradited to Bengaluru in February 2020 from Senegal.
