Diego Sanchez scared that the UFC might kill him
May 5, 2021
UFC Hall of Fame member, winner of the inaugural season of
The Ultimate fighter, and former lightweight title challenger Diego Sanchez continues to display alarming behavior after being released by the UFC.
The 39-year old Sanchez displayed a state of mind filled with paranoia and irrationality during a Tuesday appearance on
Sirius XM’s MMA Today. “The Nightmare” accused UFC president Dana White of having a gambling problem, alleged that the fight promotion conspired against him during his appearance on
The Ultimate Fighter, manipulates social media, and may murder him for speaking out.
This week, we have only one female bout on the
UFC Fight Night: Moraes vs. Sandhagen card. It features Tracy Cortez against late replacement Stephanie Egger. With only one female bout on the UFC docket, I left it to you to tell me on Twitter which other female bout you wanted me to talk about. We will get to the one in a bit, but let’s start with the UFC fight.
Tracy Cortez vs. Stephanie Egger (UFC on ESPN+ 37)
Cortez brings in a 7-1 record, which is more impressive when you consider that the loss was in her pro debut and she has won seven straight since then, including her most recent one in November. That fight was her UFC debut not counting her appearance on
UFC Fight Night: Edwards vs. Muhammad delivered three very good female bouts. Fans got to see former Invicta champ Jinh Yu Frey get her first UFC victory. They also witnessed a great fight between JJ Aldrich and Cortney Casey, plus a beautiful and dominant performance by Angela Hill. Let’s take a look at these fights.
Jinh Yu Frey vs. Gloria de Paula
Frey beat de Paula via unanimous decision, but she did not fight the fight I expected. While I thought takedowns might be an option, I did not expect them to be Frey’s main focus. I am happy to have been wrong, though.
The UFC must have thought long and hard before deciding what fight would be the headlining contest in the promotion’s return to Philadelphia after not holding an event in “The City of Brotherly Love” for nearly eight years. The reputation of Philadelphia sports fans for being difficult to please and quick to voice their displeasure is well documented, so the lightweight fight between all-action contenders Edson Barboza and Justin Gaethje makes perfect sense.
After dropping consecutive fights to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Kevin Lee, Barboza righted the ship with a third-round TKO of Dan Hooker in December, punishing the Kiwi fighter throughout the fight until a punch to the body finally proved to be too much for Hooker to withstand. Gaethje also won his last fight via stoppage, but his was a far less prolonged assault, knocking James Vick out cold with one right hand just a minute and a half into the first round. The knockout win over Vick also snapped a two-fight skid for Gaethje
UFC Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs. Gane was cut from three female bouts to two when one of Ashley Yoder’s cornermen tested positive for COVID-19. This forced a rescheduling of Yoder’s bout with Angela Hill.
The two remaining contests were exciting for different reasons. Alexis Davis put on a beautiful performance against Sabina Mazo, while Montana De La Rosa and Mayra Bueno Silva engaged in an incredible fight.
Let’s take a look at both bouts.

Alexis Davis vs. Sabina Mazo
Davis defeated Mazo via unanimous decision, but there’s not a whole lot to write about. It was three rounds of the same thing. I thought Davis would look for takedowns off of Mazo’s kicks, and that is just what she did.
