Lafayette man involved in a deadly stabbing will spend six decades in prison

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) Floyd Wayne Smith, who was found guilty of murder in March, was sentenced today to 60 years in prison.
According to court documents, Donald Alkire was stabbed in the neck at his apartment on North Seventh Street in March of last year. An investigation found Smith had been at Alkire s apartment. After contacting him, Smith eventually told police that Joseph Wilkerson had stabbed Alkire after discussing it at a bar. Smith admitted that he didn t do anything after the stabbing but took Wilkerson home afterward and then went home himself.

Jury trial begins for co-defendant in case where victim fatally stabbed in neck
Floyd Wayne Smith is getting his day in court. His jury trial began on Tuesday with jury selection and the first five state witnesses.

three charges:murder, conspiracy to commit murder and assisting a criminal.
As we previously reported, Lafayette Police were called to a home near the corner of 7th and Cincinnati Streets on March 7th, 2020. Inside, they found Donald Donnie Alkire bleeding profusely from a neck wound, fighting for his life. A battle he ended up losing. He died on the way to the hospital.
