FCHS student named to 2021 GSE

This week, the Floyd County Schools District announced that a Floyd County Central High School freshman has been selected for an opportunity which will enhance their skills in critical and creative thinking, communication, teamwork and more. On April 19, the Floyd County Schools System and Superintendent Danny Adkins announced that FCHS freshman, J.D. Fraley has been selected for the Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs (GSE). According to Adkins, GSE is a highly competitive summer learning opportunity for students who are in grades nineth, 10th or 11th and are interested in the possibility of starting their own companies. The entrepreneurs, he said, attend a three week summer session, working in teams to develop a business from beginning to and including pitching their ideas to possible investors.

Floyd Schools opening warming stations after flooding

After much of Floyd County was devastated by large amounts of rain which caused many areas to flood, the Floyd County School System has announced that it will be opening several of its schools for warming stations. On March 1, the Floyd County Schools District announced that it would be opening five of its schools for warming stations which will be open beginning Tuesday, March 2 from 9 am until 4. According to Superintendent Danny Adkins, students, families and community members are welcome and those schools will include the following: • Betsy Layne High School • Duff-Allen Central Elementary • Prestonsburg Elementary • Prestonsburg High We know we will have students and staff who may need assistance and we ask that if you would like to help, please contact one of our Family Resource Center directors, Adkins said.
