Approved FCSD #1 mask variance awaits board authorization; More local school districts submit applications

(Fremont County, WY) – County 10 shared last week, Fremont County School District (FCSD) #1’s plan to apply for a mask variance for the remainder of the school year. The application submitted to the Wyoming Department of Health was approved by State Health Officer Dr. Alexia Harrist on April 27th, 2021. The approval now awaits authorization from the school board. Advertisement “At the time of approval, Fremont County has been in the ‘green zone’ for at least two weeks,” Harrist stated, referring to levels used to measure active cases in an area based on population. The Board has not yet authorized administration to implement the variance, as changes will need to be made to the Smart Start Plan, but it is set to be discussed at the FCSD #1 special board meeting, scheduled for Friday, April 30, at 7AM.

(Lander, WY) – The Fremont County School District #1 School board met Friday morning, April 30th, to discuss the recent state approval of their mask variance request. Advertisement In a 4 to 2 decision, the board voted in favor of moving forward with the granted variance. Masks will still be required until State Health Officer Dr. Alexia Harrist signs off on the District’s acceptance of her approval, but going by timelines from other districts that have been granted variances, this should be in less than a week.

COVID-19 Hospitalizations and Active Cases Rise Slightly in Wyoming

CHEYENNE According to the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH), COVID-19 Coronavirus related hospitalizations saw a slight increase in Wyoming this week, as did the number of active cases. The WDH’s April 29 hospitalization report shows Wyoming had 27 COVID-19 related hospitalizations statewide as of Thursday, which is up from 20 last Friday. This is the highest number of hospitalizations the state has seen since March 1 when there were 28 patients. Cheyenne Regional Medical Center had the most hospitalizations as of Thursday with 10 patients, followed by Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County with four patients. Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie, St. John’s Medical Center in Jackson, and Wyoming Medical Center in Casper all had three patients on April 29.

Face Masks Now Optional in Shoshoni Schools

SHOSHONI Starting today, April 28, masks are now optional within the Fremont County School District No. 24 schools, according to an announcement made by the district. The school district announced today on Facebook that they have been granted an exception request to the Statewide Public Health Order No. 1, which requires face masks within schools where social distancing cannot be maintained. “Starting today, masks will not be required in our schools, anyone and everyone is welcome to continue to wear them, but they are not required in our school due to the exception request. Please respect those that continue to mask as they may have a family member they are trying to protect,” the Facebook post states.

FCSD #25 board meeting Tuesday, April 27

(Riverton, WY) – The school board for Fremont County School District (FCSD) #25 will meet for their regular meeting Tuesday, April 27, at 7PM. The meeting will cover the acceptance of the State Education Agency (SEA) Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Reimbursement Grant in the amount of $11,875.00. Advertisement Contracts to fill 1 Ashgrove Elementary, 1 Aspen Early Learning Center, and 3 Riverton High School positions, will also be offered, as well as an official offer to former St. Stephens Chief Financial Officer Matthew Gonzales to become the new FCSD #25 Business Manager. The meeting will also see a Frontier Academy Graduation for Adrianna Michelle WhiteHawk, as well as a Wyoming High School Activities Association (WHSAA) Good Sportsmanship Award being given to Damon DeVries & Brice Nimmo.
