TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) riverSCAPE is planning a new community project designed to make it safer for kids to walk to school.
The Indiana Department of Health gave the organization over $8,000 in grants. It will be used to create a safe walking route for Fuqua Elementary students.
Part of the plan would be moving the stop bar at the crosswalk and adding a form of art on the road.
Those with riverSCAPE said the project should encourage kids to walk to school, while promoting safety. This is going to build on the great infrastructure that s already right here. There are sidewalks on both sides of Margaret Avenue. This is going to build upon that safety that s already been established, said Jane Santucci, with Riverscape.
