Baron makes history as Ford SA s first female CFO in 97 years

Baron makes history as Ford SA’s first female CFO in 97 years By Dineo Faku Share FORD SOUTH Africa has appointed seasoned executive Yota Baron as its first female chief financial officer (CFO) in the company’s 97-year history, the group said yesterday. Originally from South Africa, Baron has spent her 31-year career at Ford, and succeeds Joseph Verga, who will be repatriating to the US after four years as CFO. Commenting on the appointment, Ford South Africa’s managing director, Neale Hill, said it was fitting that the announcement of Yota’s appointment was made in August, Women’s Month, as she would be Ford South Africa’s first female CFO.

Rough and tough: A Ford Ranger offensive

If I was asked to award a local motoring company a badge for “The Most Proactive Automobile Company in the Time of Covid” when it comes to getting product out there, hosting events and launches in a world restricted by crowd size, curfews and physical distancing, my vote would probably go to Ford Motor Company SA.  While most opted to launch digitally (which somehow defeats the purpose of a real-life test drive), Ford quickly saw the opportunity to get media to safely drive their products  by sending us on partner launches during strict lockdown last year, when we were forced to remain in the bubble of our homes with only ourselves or immediate family to vent on.

Scope for Ford to venture into electric vehicles in SA, but speed bumps along the way

Ford Ranger Raptor Assembly line Manufacturing electric vehicles (EV) at Ford s Silverton plant in Tshwane is absolutely part of the automobile manufacturer s future strategy, said Andrea Cavallaro, operations director of the Ford International Markets Group. Cavallaro and other officials from the motor company spoke to Fin24 on Tuesday, following an announcement that Ford would invest R15.8 billion in its operations in South Africa. This is its most significant investment in the 97 years it has been in the country. The bulk of the investment or R10.3 billion will go towards upgrades to the Silverton assembly plant in Tshwane. The plant is one of Ford s largest production hubs in the world, for the Ranger model. Ford will direct R5.5 billion of the investment towards vendor tooling, to support suppliers with the latest equipment and technologies.
