Thomas intends to put Jet Foods into at least 80 percent of his buildings and centers, almost all of which were acquired on the cheap owing to their advanced age and various states of deterioration. A former YMCA on the west side of Aurora, for instance, has been vacant for many years. Thomas wants to put apartments, plus a Jet Foods, on the property.
“Even though I went away for awhile, I’ve never stopped being a real estate guy,” Thomas says. “I’m investing in shopping centers at a time people have been moving away from them. But all that these centers are missing is an anchor. I’m prepared to supply that. I’m probably the only developer in the U.S. doing this.”

Food delivery conglomerate Uber agreed Tuesday to purchase alcohol delivery platform Drizly in a $1.1 billion deal. The resulting arrangement will include the integration of Drizly’s marketplace with the Uber Eats app, as well as maintaining a separate Drizly app.
Drizly is a player in the San Antonio market via partnerships with at least six local booze retailers: Spec s Wine, Spirits & Finer Foods, Seazar s Fine Wine & Spirits, Don s & Ben s Liquor, Live Oak Wine & Spirits, J&G Liquor and Five Palms Liquors.

At their meeting Tuesday, members of the Greenville City Council approved the cityâs first request for a permit to open a liquor store since residents approved of retail hard liquor sales in the November election.
The conditional use permit was sought by Segovia Retail Group, representing the owners of the Greenville Promenade (formerly Crossroads Mall), to open a Specâs Wine, Spirits & Finer Foods store in the now-vacant space formerly occupied by the Bealls department store that closed this past fall.
