Ferns St Aidan s GAA launches 100k challenge

Ferns St Aidan s GAA Club is organising a fundraising initiative that in addition to raising money for the club will also help local people get fit and active. The club is challenging local people to walk or run the distance to Tullamore, in Offaly, Thurles, in Tipperary, or even the whole way to Wales. However, the distance will only need to be covered in a manner of speaking. We re not really asking people to set out for those places, said club chairman, Eoin Gethings. Instead, they re examples of places that are 100km from Ferns, as the crow flies, and 100km is the distance that we re asking people to cover over the next four weeks, he added.

Charles was very involved in the community and a legend in horseshoe throwing

For those who called Charles Christopher their friend, his death in Wexford General Hospital on Wednesday, December 29, evoked feelings of great sadness and loss. This was particularly true for his daughters Theresa, Mary Anne and Margaret, and his sons, Charles and Walter, and also for his large extended family. Charles, who was 83-years-old, came from a well-known and respected family. Born in Coolbawn, Ferns, on April 20, 1937, known as the Big Tree, he was a son of the late Margaret and Joe Christopher. He was pre-deceased by his sisters, Maureen and Kathleen, and by his brother Seanie [John]. Charles married the love of his life, Mary Carter, on January 27, 1959, and the couple were blessed with five children.
