Car park closed at Palmerston North mall after cracks found after earthquakes

The Plaza car park is closed after cracks were found in its concrete. Cracks appearing at Palmerston North s main shopping mall has forced the closure of one of its high-rise car parks. The Plaza, owned by Kiwi Property, cordoned off one of its two car parks on Wednesday after cracks were discovered in the concrete of the multi-storey parking building. In a statement, centre manager Andrew Heaphy said several cracks were detected in the Ferguson Street car park following the earthquakes on March 5. “While it’s not uncommon for cracks to appear in similar buildings, as a precaution we have temporarily closed the car park while a more detailed assessment is conducted.

Community-friendly transport solution to replace unsafe level crossing

Architecture news & editorial desk The Ferguson Street level crossing in Williamstown, Victoria is being removed and replaced with a community-friendly transport solution including a new railway station.  The teams collaborating on the $192 million project, collectively known as the Western Program Alliance, include Arup, McConnell Dowell, Mott McDonald, Metro Trains and the Level Crossing Removal Project. To date, the Alliance has successfully removed three level crossings for the Victorian Government, with work underway on another three crossings. The Ferguson Street level crossing in Williamstown is dangerous and congested with more than 25,000 vehicles and 110 trains passing through each day. The frequent boom gate closures necessitated by rail traffic not only create significant safety concerns but also result in frustration among drivers, pedestrians and other users. 

Smith County shelter to charge small fees

The Smith County Commissioners Court approved the implementation of a fee schedule at its meeting on Tuesday, February 23. Smith County Animal Control and Shelter Supervisor, Amber Greene, says the average stay at the shelter for a dog is 15 days, which costs the county $77. Adoptions have been free, but beginning April 1, adoptions from the shelter will cost $30, which will include some vaccinations, a microchip, and 30 days of pet health insurance. 

Disband Summer in the Park – report
