Bus service to Bierley cut down again as youths throw brick at window FIRST has cut down its bus service to Bierley yet again after a brick was thrown at one of its vehicles en route. West Yorkshire Police were called out to Ferrand Avenue to reports of criminal damage to a bus - just days after a similar incident. Police said two youths threw a brick at the bus window, causing it to crack. No one was injured during the incident and the bus was empty at the time. The 620 service will be staying on Bierley Lane and returning at Rooley Lane, missing out Shetcliffe Lane, Ferrand Avenue and Burnham Avenue.
BUS services to Bierley have been cut down this evening due to mindless vandalism from children. First Bradford said it s 620 service will only operate as far as the Bierley terminus and back towards Bradford due to possible risks. When a driver arrived at Burnham Avenue, children started throwing stones at the bus and broke one window. There was a single passenger on board and fortunately no one was injured. Police did not attend. But First has warned that incidents like these are endangering both the drivers and customers. The company is now investigating CCTV footage to see if they can identify the culprits.
Campaigners fighting for a long-term solution to fly-tipping in one of the worst affected areas have described Bradford Council’s response as “exasperating”. It follows analysis by Bradford District Green Party which showed that the Tong Ward ranked third for areas in the district with the highest number of fly-tipping reports between January 1, 2018 and May 31, 2020. The footpaths between Burberry Close and Ferrand Avenue are one of the worst affected areas in Bierley, following a three year battle with illegal dumping. Last year, residents spoke to the Telegraph & Argus about how the “gut-wrenching” smell and rat infestation affected their daily lives. This triggered a large operation by the Council to clear the area. But over the past six months, fly-tipping has once again blocked large areas of the footpath.
