Picture SERAFINA SILAITOGA The Fiji Roads Authority has cautioned motorists travelling along the Savusavu-Labasa Highway as affected areas have a one way access. FRA acting chief executive Kamal Prasad said improvement works on the slipped Lomaloma road would begin next week. A few landslides have happened along the highway as a result of heavy rain brought in by TC Ana. The Fiji Times team has driven part four landslides along the highway which have been cleared and more cracks have appeared along the S-Bend highway near Lomaloma Village. More Stories

Picture: SUPPLIED/FRA Members of the public in the Northern Division are being advised that all major road networks around Vanua Levu is mostly inaccessible. According to the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) latest update on the status of the roads for: Nabouwalu Road – main supply route from Labasa / Seaqaqa / Nabouwalu: Road Slip at Makomako Tabia before Makomako Intersection – now open to Single lane access only. Major Road slip at Korosomo Hill (Lilly Pond Passing Lane) – Full Road Closure. Road slip at Somosomo Flat between Savusavu turnoff and Naravuka Intersection – now open to single lane access only.

FRA continues with road work schedule

February 2, 2021 4:25 pm Fiji Roads Authority’s Acting Chief Executive Kamal Prasad. Fiji Roads Authority contractors are working around the clock to complete the roads that were damaged even before TC Ana hit Fiji. Acting Chief Executive Kamal Prasad says for now contractors will start working early in the morning and will go late into the night. However, some traffic management will be put in place to minimize congestion. Article continues after advertisement Prasad adds there might be some inconvenience for a short period but the Authority is working on increasing efficiency. “What we are trying to do is rip the whole road up so that they are not stuck in traffic in weeks to come that’s the whole idea. We are out in full force but peak hour is when they will try not to work. There is a set of traffic management put in place.”

The Fiji Roads Authority is now working on alternative routes for Lomaloma Slip from Savusavu through Buca Bay Road, Natewa West Coast Road, Sevaci Korotasere Road, Nayarabale Road and Wainikoro Road towards Labasa, which is currently inaccessible due to surface flooding, landslip and washout crossing approaches.
