SUVA, May 17 (Xinhua) Fiji reported two new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 174 in the island nation.
According to Fiji s Health Ministry, the first is the husband of case number 159 from the cluster in Nausori, a town about 19 km northeast of capital Suva. He has been in isolation since May 12. The second case is a healthcare worker from the Colo-i-Suva isolation ward near Suva, who returned a positive COVID-19 test result during a routine swabbing.
Meanwhile, two existing patients have entered into intensive care after their condition deteriorated.

SUVA, May 15 (Xinhua) Fiji confirmed on Saturday two new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 168 in the island nation.
According to Fiji s Health Ministry, the first new case is a close contact from the most recent cluster in Suva while the second one is a close contact from the cluster in Nausori, a town about 19 km northeast of capital city of Suva.
The Fiji Center for Disease Control (CDC), which has been closed down after three of its staff tested positive for COVID-19, has been fully decontaminated and will resume processing COVID-19 tests from Saturday night.

SUVA, May 14 (Xinhua) Fiji will start the curfew in the greater Suva area later Friday night as the Pacific island nation reported one new COVID-19 case.
According to Fiji s Health Ministry, the new case is a household member of the cases confirmed in Nausori, a town about 19 km northeast of the capital city of Suva on Thursday, and he has been isolated at Navua Hospital.
Fiji has registered 166 cases in total, with 114 recoveries, 48 active cases and four deaths since the island nation reported its first confirmed case in March last year.

SUVA, May 12 (Xinhua) Fiji said on Wednesday night that it will tighten up measures to combat COVID-19 after the report of nine new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Pacific island country over the past 24 hours.
According to Fiji s Health Ministry, of the new cases, three were reported in co-workers of a case confirmed Tuesday at the Extra Supermarket located in downtown Suva, capital of Fiji. The supermarket has been closed for disinfection.
Five of the new cases were all from Nausori, a town about 19 km northeast of Suva. The ninth case was a border quarantine worker.

Fiji’s Health Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong said the ministry’s COVID-19 containment efforts was leaning more towards its response efforts and less on identifying which variant the virus belonged to.
When asked on Monday on whether the current local cases were of the B1617 variant, which was ravaging countries like India, Dr James Fong said it was too soon to identify as test samples had been sent to Melbourne, Australia.
