The Manawatū River Leaders’ Forum has announced that
for the first time Te Oranga o te Awa – the Manawatū
River Improvement Festival, will be held in Foxton to
celebrate the reopening of the Foxton River Loop
Reserve.
The celebration will be held at the reserve
on Saturday 27 February from 10am-3pm. It will provide an
opportunity for the community to come together and mark the
rejuvenation of a key part of the River Loop, which silted

OPINION: The results are in: KiwiSaver funds reported returns of between -9 per cent and +30 per cent for the 12 months to December 31, 2020. Yet, frustratingly, many people who earned lacklustre results won’t switch in 2021. We hear a lot of “why would I bother about KiwiSaver when I only have $10,000?” $10,000 is no small sum in the land of KiwiSaver. Let me explain why. Using a compound interest calculator, $10,000 invested for 40 years (with no further money added) earns $361 million if it can achieve an annual return of 30 per cent every year. The number is insane, but it is mathematically correct.
Only five, or 4 per cent, of the city’s 136 sales in December were for under $400,000. Eighty-two per cent were for more than $500,000. And listings are down from 150-160 in November to between 95 and 105. The battle for property was obvious at open homes on Sunday.
Stuff visited one on Church St for an early 20th century four-bedroom house seeking offers of more than $590,000. It last sold in 2006 for $140,000 and had a rateable value from 2018 of $325,000. Two dozen cars lined the street outside and the steady stream of people viewing the property didn t let up. “There’s not enough on the market at the moment,” one woman said, while another couple said they’d been looking for six months and had viewed at least 50 properties.
