THROUGHOUT his increasingly illustrious career, Steven Davis has tumbled record after record and reached milestone after milestone.
Already Northern Ireland’s record caps holder with a staggering 124 outings for the Green and White Army, next month, he could both match and break Peter Shilton’s British caps record of 125. They travel to Italy in World Cup qualifying on March 25 and then host Bulgaria in Belfast six days later.
He s now just 23 matches shy of 800 career appearances, and having only just turned 36 and still performing at a consistent, high-level week-in, week-out, few would bet against that tally ticking even higher.

Northern Ireland skipper Steven Davis made his 300
th appearance for Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers FC at the weekend.
Davis was unable to celebrate the milestone with a win as Steven Gerrard’s side were held to a 1-1 draw at Motherwell.
The runaway leaders, who are still 21 points ahead of nearest challengers Celtic at the top of the table, had to come from behind at Fir Park to clinch a point with Davis again the stand-out player in the heart of the Rangers midfield.
Prior to Sunday’s draw Gerrard had heaped praise on Davis reaching 300 games for the club: “I knew he was a top professional, a competitor and a wonderful footballer.
Since his arrival from Wigan Athletic in July, Balogun has established himself in Steven Gerrard s team with solid defensive performances which have helped them remain dominant in the Scottish top-flight this campaign.
Aribo, meanwhile, could not add to his tally of four goals and two assists in the Premiership so far this term.
Uganda defender Bevis Mugabi was another African star who featured in Sunday s encounter and he played from start to finish for the hosts while South Africa s Bongani Zungu watched on from the bench.
Zungu is yet to start a league match in Scotland since his loan signing from Amiens in October, with his all nine Premiership appearances coming as a substitute.
