BMET s clearance pass: Passengers travelling on visit visas suffer at airports

Many outgoing passengers especially those wishing to visit United Arab Emirates are facing difficulty after the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh issued a directive for such passengers to obtain BMET card or clearance. Not only this, related organisations and Probashi Kalyan Desk at the airport have been facing unexpected complexities in dealing with them. BMET s district offices are also facing problems.
A government directive has been issued banning international flights for a week from April 14. As a result, some 30 Bangladeshi workers faced uncertainty regarding return to their workplaces. So, a decision was taken on April 15 at an inter-ministerial meeting to arrange special flights.

A Dhaka court today placed three Hefajat-e-Islam men, including two of its central leaders, on a five-day remand each in a case filed over the mayhem in Dhaka in May 2013.
They are Hefajat-e-Islam assistant organising secretary Mufti Shakhawat Hossain Razi, assistant secretary general Maulana Monzurul Islam Afendi and activist Mufti Fakhrul Islam.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan passed the order after Investigation Officer Harun-Or-Rashid produced the trio with a 10-day remand prayer in a case filed with Paltan Police Station, court sources said.

Leaders of Baira and Atab also said respective employers will also cancel visa permit of many Bangladeshi workers if they fail to reach their workplaces abroad due to suspension of international flights.
Following the government guidance and instruction, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh on April 11 announced to suspend operation of all international passenger flights to and from Bangladesh from April 14 to April 20 in a bid to contain Covid-19 infection.
However, medevac, humanitarian, relief, cargo, technical landing (for refueling only) and the flights cleared under special consideration will remain out of purview of this suspension, CAAB said.
Baira and Atab leaders demanded that the manpower sector be kept out of purview of lockdown by declaring the sector as an emergency service sector.

A 14-day quarantine is compulsory for those who arrive from Europe, he said.
Their samples will be collected for Covid-19 test after 13 days, the doctor said adding that they will be allowed to join work if the test reports come negative.
Sources at the project said in total 2,800 foreigners are working for the project.
Ishwardi Upazila Health Officer AM Asma Khan told The Daily Star that the workers who came from Russia are being administered Russian Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik-7 under special arrangement.
So far, 1,000 Russian workers have been vaccinated, she said.
The project s medical team is working for the vaccination of all the foreign workers.
