The Lao National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control has announced measures to enhance COVID-19 prevention and control during the traditional New Year festival Boun Pi May 2021.

The decision was made after Laos recorded the first community infection in mid-April.
The committee asked the Health Ministry to continue tracing suspect cases and conduct vaccination as scheduled.
The Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism was required to temporarily shut down entertainment areas, karaoke parlours and eateries during the remaining days of April.
According to the committee, all F1 cases having contact with the patient No.50 tested negative.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has extended partial lockdown in the capital until the end of March, as the country awaits the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines.

In a statement on February 27, spokesperson of the Philippine President Harry Roque said the decision follows a report of 2,651 new virus infections, the highest daily increase in more than four months.
The Philippines will be the last in the region to get its first shipment of vaccines, comprising 600,000 doses of Sinovac Biotech’s vaccines donated by China, to be delivered on February 28, and earmarked for healthcare workers and military troops. The country has the second largest numbers of COVID-19 cases and deaths in Southeast Asia.

Automobile producer THACO recently shipped more than 200 Kia vehicles and auto parts to Thailand, Myanmar, Japan, and the Republic of Korea (RoK).

The conglomerate’s largest export consignment to date, made on February 17, comprised of cars, buses and semi-trailers manufactured at its factories at the THACO-Chu Lai Industrial Park in central Quang Nam province.
The exports included 80 Grand Carnival cars to Thailand, the company’s seventh consignment to its partner, Yontrakit, since December 2019.

Malaysia has logged 350 new COVID-19 clusters since the start of last December, including 225 related to the workplace, making up 64.3 percent.

On 23 January alone, the country reported 11 additional clusters, eight of them at the workplace.
The country s Director-General of Health Noor Hisham said 80 clusters are in manufacturing, 53 in construction and 31 in the services sector. Employers are asked to observe preventive measures to curb the spread of the pandemic.
Since 1 December last year, 112,225 people were tested for COVID-19, and 28,477, or 25.4 percent were positive with the SARS-CoV-2 that caused the disease.
