it wasn t a prank call. they said that they had found ç tyler s phone and wallet on the gw bridge. reporter: by now the story of what happened to jane and joe clementi s son, tyler, is well known. how almost two years ago, the 18-year-old college freshman had walked onto the george washington bridge spanning the hudson river, climbed the barrier and jumped to his death. tyler s older brother, james, remembers the night vividly. my mom couldn t even talk. she was just screaming. i think i knew before they even said. i think i knew it was tyler. reporter: but the clementis were in for another blow. if tyler wasn t gay, this thing never happened. reporter: what they learned was that something terrible had been done to their son just before his death. tyler s roommate at rutgers university in new jersey had used a webcam to spy on tyler during an intimate moment with another man.
