VILNIUS – Lithuanian outbound tourism is recovering in the run up to the summer vacation season, but inbound travel remains virtually non-existent, according to the industry s representatives.
Zydre Gaveliene, president of Lithuania s National Tourism Business Association, says people are tired of staying at home and are eager to travel as a growing number of countries are reopening to tourism. We already see more light than clouds, because an increasing number of countries are creating clear expectations for tourists and waiting for them, Gaveliene told BNS. These are such places as Greece, the island of Madeira and Iceland.

Lithuanian tourism businessmen are proposing facilitating entry to Lithuania for vaccinated Israeli tourists, letting them stay at sanatoriums and also travelling within Lithuania.
The idea has been proposed by the Chamber of Tourism and the Lithuanian Business Confederation. The organizations have asked the Foreign Ministry to consider such a possibility, and the ministry says it will consider it and look into possible solutions. Taking into account the fact that Israel is among the countries with the most effective COVID-19 vaccine rollouts and is an important market for incoming tourism, associations representing the tourism business are suggesting to, first of all, looking for solutions for tourists from Israel, the Foreign Ministry told BNS.
Lithuanian parlt adopts 14-day refund period for cancelled travel 2021-01-14 BNS/TBT Staff
VILNIUS – The Seimas of Lithuania has shortened the deadline for travel agencies to refund tourists for cancelled trips to 14 days, from 90 days, in a bid to avoid the European Union’s (EU) sanctions.
The 14-day deadline will come into effect in mid-February. This implies that the tourists who had their trips cancelled due to the pandemic last or this year should get the refund early in March.
Respective amendments to the Civil Code were adopted with 119 votes for and one abstention.
Zydre Gaveliene, the president of Lithuania s National Tourism Business Association, told BNS that the postponement of the deadline’s entry into force until mid-February was very important.
