The death penalty will be waived for US Army veteran Craig Lang, the alleged double murderer who fought as a mercenary for a far-right paramilitary group in Ukraine, the DOJ has said.
The government is hoping the lesser sentence could expedite the 30-year-old s extradition from Kiev where he is living under house arrest.
The US wants to try Lang in Florida for his role in the murders of Serafin Danny Lorenzo Jr, 53, and Deana K. Lorenzo, 50, in 2018.
During a Zoom status hearing in Fort Myers yesterday, Jesus Casas, assistant US attorney for the Middle District of Florida, said the Department of Justice had agreed to Ukraine s demands not to pursue the death penalty.
