E-WASTE HAZARDS: This refers to the report ‘E-waste poses health threat to Pakistanis, says UN study’ (June 16). This is an alarming situation and calls for immediate pre-emptive and remedial steps. Karachi is the major location for e-waste recycling and dismantling. China and India have been working effectively to reduce this threat. Pakistan needs to boost its efforts and constitute a regulatory body to counter the e-waste hazard.

WATERBORNE DISEASES: The burden of waterborne diseases is increasing in Pakistan, but the expenditure on health is limited due to inadequate allocations. The government of Punjab has undertaken two initiatives to ensure safe drinking water, but it is yet to be seen how these initiatives will contribute to improving the supply of safe drinking water across the province.
