History Says - Australian Guineas

Link to Share Tagaloa s timing could not have been better in the C.S. Hayes Stakes. That win was his first since snaring last year s Blue Diamond and rocketed him towards the head of markets for Saturday s $1 million Group 1 at Flemington. But it wasn t just hitting top form that augurs well for his chances this weekend. The Hayes Stakes has become clearly the premier Guineas guide, with five of the past six Guineas winners rounding out their preparations in the 1400-metre G3 run a fortnight earlier, including four who completed the double. The one beaten in the lead-up was Palentino, who was first past the post but relegated to second on protest.

Young: Tagaloa spot on for Guineas

Link to Share Co-trainer Natalie Young says Australian Guineas favourite Tagaloa is spot on for Saturday s Group 1 at Flemington. The Blue Diamond winner stormed into favouritism for the Australian Guineas on the back of a dominant win in fast time in the C.S. Hayes Stakes at Flemington last start and Young, who trains in partnership with Trent Busuttin, is confident he is ready to fire in his grand final. He is really great, Young said on Tuesday. I couldn t have asked him to come through that last race any better. He did a nice bit of work this morning on the course proper. Really towed me to the line at the 1200m and just rolled into it nicely.

Tagaloa’s co-trainer Natalie Young only grew in confidence in the colt winning Saturday’s Group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington after she rode him in trackwork at Cranbourne on Tuesday. Tagaloa scored his first win since last year’s Blue Diamond when he outpointed his rivals in the CS Hayes Stakes on February 13. Young said Tagaloa’s trackwork indicated a return to his best in the CS Hayes Stakes but she said the colt showed signs he’d be harder to beat in the $1 million Australian Guineas.

Guineas looms for Zou Dancer

Link to Share Troy Corstens said connections will have to consider their options, but the Group 1 Australian Guineas in two weeks looks a lock-in for filly Zou Dancer after her incredible win in the Group 3 Vanity at Flemington. Zou Dancer carried a low domestic rating of just 68 into the race but she emerged as a potential Group 1 winner after she spanked VRC Oaks winner Personal by almost five lengths when recording a most impressive time for the 1400-metre journey. The three-year-old filly, who was having just her fifth race start, recorded a sizzling 1:22.19 for the journey and only an hour or so early the Group 1-bound Regardsmaree won over the same trip in a time almost one second slower than Zou Dancer (1:22.32).
