A CORONER warned of the dangers and unpredictability of drinking large quantities of alcohol. Coroner for North Wales East and Central John Gittins spoke during the inquest of a 35-year-old Wrexham man who died after drinking a bottle of wine at a Chester city centre pub. Thomas Furlong died after consuming alcohol of a quantity that would have proved fatal to 50 per cent of people. Mr Furlong, known as Tom, became unresponsive in the back of a taxi after reportedly drinking a bottle of wine and starting a second at the Liverpool Arms on August 16 last year. He had been helped into the taxi by staff at the pub who were surprised how quickly he had become obviously drunk having previously appeared jovial and merry .
