Oak Ridge, N.C. Providence outlasted Northwest Guilford in a thrilling five-set match on Saturday.
The Panthers advance to the 4A West final after beating Northwest Guilford in five sets 12-25, 25-11, 25-19, 20-25, and 15-9. Providence met the Vikings less than a month ago in non-conference action and won 3-1.
Northwest Guilford rolled through the first set inside Roger L. Nelson Gymnasium. With the score tied 4-all, the Vikings opened things up with junior Sofia Ortega-Utiaccho delivering serves. NWG found various ways to record eight-straight points to lead 12-4. Providence was presented a point to break that stretch as Ortega-Utiaccho hit a serve out of bounds Vikings up 12-5.
