A pregnant mother who was desperately looking for a family home to rent was conned out of $3,000 from elaborate scammers posing as property owners. Jessa Bryen, 22, had been looking for four months for a new home in Townsville, on Queensland s north coast. She was coming up to the end of her current lease and even sold her car and set aside some of the money so she could afford to pay the deposit for a new home. Ms Bryen put out a call on social media for any vacant properties when she received a response from someone claiming to be a real estate agent.

The 22-year-old has been searching for a rental property for about four months, so when she received a reply to a social media call-out for a rental, she thought she d struck gold. The advertisement for the Railway Estate home looked legitimate, with the fake agent even sending Ms Bryen what looked like real paperwork for a lease and security deposit .
