Man accused contact victim from prison, get her to retract complaint

Premium Content Subscriber only A man who has been accused of contacting a woman 19 times from prison with one attempting to get her to withdraw her complaint to police spent 321 days in custody before being granted bail. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, applied for bail on May 12 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court. He has one charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice and 18 breach domestic violence charges. Defence lawyer Zoe Craven said the sentence range for the most serious offence of attempting to pervert the course of justice was between 15 months and two years prison.

Man drives home from court after having licence disqualified

Premium Content Subscriber only A young man has been ordered off the road for two years after he was caught driving home from court, where he was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for a short period. Zephyr Lawrence Leo, 21, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on March 15 to two counts of driving without a licence and one count of possessing dangerous drugs. Police prosecutor sergeant Kevin Ongheen said Leo was intercepted driving along Richardson Road at 2.40pm on March 18, 2020 for a random breath test and licence check. Sergeant Ongheen said Leo did not hold a driver’s licence and had driven to his residence from Rockhampton Magistrates Court after being disqualified by the court from driving for three months.

Man yells Black Lives Matter, profanities in shopping centre

Premium Content Subscriber only An intoxicated man made members of the public uncomfortable when he started yelling Black Lives Matter , you white f -ing c -s and other profanities while at a North Rockhampton shopping centre in August 2020. Hedley James Twaddle, 45, pleaded guilty in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on March 15 to one count each of commit public nuisance and contravene direction or requirement of police. Police prosecutor sergeant Kevin Ongheen said security were notified by patrons that Twaddle was walking around Northside Plaza Shopping Centre at 9.50am on August 6, 2020 yelling profanities and causing a nuisance. Mr Ongheen said Twaddle was intoxicated and yelling Black Lives Matter and you white f -ing c -s while holding, what appeared to be, a bottle of alcohol.
