Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has assured of thorough investigations into the alleged manhandling of a Citi FM journalist and the conduct of operatives of the National Security on the premises of the media house.
The Minister, who visited Citi FM and Citi TV on Friday, May 14, 2021, following the incident, said the government is committed to guaranteeing the safety of journalists.
His assurance comes after the National Security Ministry said it was investigating the incident.
Armed personnel from the National Security stormed the Station s offices in Adabraka ostensibly to arrest one of Citi FM’s reporters, Zoe Abu-Baidoo Addo, after her colleague, Caleb Kudah, had sent her videos of grounded MASLOC cars he captured at the National Security office.
The Outgoing Ghana Journalist Association president, Roland Affail Monney, has apologized to journalists over some incentive comments he made after the abuse and arrest meted out to Citi FM/TV Journalist Caleb Kudah and Zoe Abu Baidoo Addo on Tuesday, May 11, 2021.
According to Mr. Monney, he granted an interview in Kumasi to Joy FM without having full details of what had happened, hence he faulted the journalist for ethical breach.
Speaking at a press conference held in Accra on Friday, May 14, 2021, Mr. Monney stated that he acted based on his instincts and condemned the act of the journalist for filming a video of the Ministry of National Security.
