The Manipur government has declared the World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council (WKZIC) an unlawful organization under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. This decision was made following an emergency Cabinet meeting. The state government cited a WKZIC news release from October 24, which suggested the Kuki-Zo community should stockpile weapons to prepare for a potential conflict before the harvest in November. An FIR was filed against the organization following the killing of a senior police officer, SDPO Chingtham Anand Kumar.
The Cabinet noted that an organization named the World Kuki-Zo Intellectual Council (WKZIC) had issued a press release on October 24, calling upon the Kuki-Zo community that during this November, before the harvesting season, the community will face another war; and arms and ammunition should therefore be in sufficient stock.
