THANDIWE NEWTON has changed her name, back. Back to what it should have been after the w in surname was carelessly left out of her first film credits, a continuation of the disrespect she faced while at school.
In an in-depth interview with Diana Evans, just over twenty years since the journalist first interviewed the actor, Newton revealed her thoughts and feelings on significant periods in her career claiming ‘many lives have been lived’ since their initial meeting.
More activist than actor these days Newton has been through the dark periods of Hollywood where journalists would ask her to sign things in ‘African’ or where a British newspaper claimed she couldn’t be British because one of her parents was Black, and it’s the confluence of those experiences that have shaped who she is today.
