Ten Milwaukee parks in underserved areas now have open-access wireless internet or will be getting it soon, Mayor Tom Barrett announced Thursday. The COVID-19 pandemic has made affordable and reliable internet access a necessity for our residents working and schooling from home, Barrett said during a news conference.
The city is covered with Wi-Fi coverage, but there are certain parts that aren t serviced, he said. This became an issue I became intimately familiar with when the schools went virtual and working with the Milwaukee Public Schools to try to make sure that all kids who attended school who were now attending their classes in Zoom fashion were able to have access to education, Barrett said.
