WTJU May 14th, 2021 | By Ralph Graves May is designated Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month. The Classics a Day team adopted that theme as well. For the month of May, the challenge is to post examples of classical music composed or performed by artists who share that heritage. I limited myself to just posting Asian-American composers. And discovered a seemingly limitless number of composers to choose from both past and present. Here are my picks for the second week of #ClassicsaDay #APAHM 05/10/21 Zhou Long – Postures Concerto for Piano and Orchestra This Chinese composer writes, “I have been composing music seriously to achieve my goal of improving the understanding between peoples from various backgrounds.”

Chinese New Year: The Year of the Ox at SF Symphony at San Francisco (SF) Symphony in San Francisco - February 20, 2021

On February 20, the San Francisco Symphony presents its annual Chinese New Year celebration, now in its twenty-first season and, for the first time, in a virtual format. The Symphony s Chinese New Year event is an elegant and colorful celebration of the Lunar New Year, featuring a program of traditional folk music and works by Asian composers and drawing upon vibrant Asian traditions, past and present. The program will be available free on SFSymphony+ and broadcast on NBC Bay Area at 4pm on February 20; the program will rebroadcast February 27 at 4pm on NBC Bay Area and KTSF 26 on February 21 & 27 at 3:30pm.

Chinese judge stabbed to death by a disgruntled old friend

January 14, 2021 Zhou Chunmei, a judge at the Hunan Higher People’s Court, was killed at her home on Tuesday (Jan 12) morning. Weibo A judge was stabbed to death at her home in central China on Tuesday (Jan 12) morning, with police saying an “old friend” of the victim had been detained in what appeared to have been an act of revenge linked to a lost court case. Zhou Chunmei, a 45-year-old mother of two, was found dead at about 7.30am in her garage, police in Changsha, capital of Hunan province, said in a statement. She had suffered multiple stab wounds. A 44-year-old woman described as “an old friend of Zhou” was apprehended at the scene.
