BEIJING (China Daily/ANN): Sinopharm s Covid-19 vaccine has been approved for emergency use for young people ages 3 to 17, after early and midstage clinical trials showed it is safe and can elicit strong immune responses in the age group, the company said in a recent statement.
The approval was granted by the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council, which was set up to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is the second domestic Covid-19 vaccine made available for children and teenagers in China. In June, Sinovac Biotech s vaccine was authorised for emergency use for young people.

Since the beginning of May, the Chinese mainland has reported 50 confirmed COVID-19 cases, and found new silent carriers for 18 consecutive days, showing a faster transmission speed and a strong virus strain, while Chinese-made vaccines can tackle the different virus variants so far, officials from China s top health authority and CDC said on Monday.
BEIJING (Global Times): China s Sinopharm is expanding the production capacity to five billion doses per year with accelerating overseas cooperation after one of its Covid-19 vaccines was included in the Emergency Using List of the World Health Organisation (WHO), company executives said at a forum on Thursday (May 13) in Shanghai.
Sinopharm has produced more than 400 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines and more than 200 million doses have been supplied at home and abroad, Sinopharm executives said.
Sinopharm is expected to further expand its production capacity to five billion doses of Covid-19 vaccines per year globally as the Chinese pharmaceutical giant is working on the construction and expansion of vaccine-producing plants, and cooperating with foreign countries, including the UAE, to make Sinopharm vaccine overseas, according to Sinopharm chairman Liu Jingzhen.

China’s vaccine developers are joining hands with so-called contract development and manufacturing organizations on research and development, clinical trials, production, and sales, the source told Yicai Global.
Sinopharm and Sinovac, two early Covid-19 vaccine developers, have been testing their jabs abroad in collaboration with CDMOs, followed by deals to make them locally in countries such as Bangladesh, Egypt, Brazil, and the United Arab Emirates, according to Chinese media reports.
