Beijing's official temperature reached 40 degrees after 1:30 p.m. local time. It is the first time since the observatory was established that the temperature rises above 40 degrees Celsius for two consecutive days. China's meteorological agency said on Thursday it expected temperatures to continue rising in most parts of the north of the country for the next 8 to 10 days. Local authorities warned today that prolonged rising temperatures could have health consequences, including an increased risk of stroke. They advised residents to drink at least 1.5 litres of water a day and reduce outdoors.
