The first part of the expression - wabi - refers to the bitter-sweet pleasure of being alone. It refers to the serenity that comes from detaching yourself from society, and its endless striving for wealth and status. The second element is sabi, a reference to the noble veneer that the passage of time lends to people and objects. It asserts that while time affects people no less than it does objects, the essence of both remains the same.

Meditation studios in Sydney and Melbourne, MYND and Mirosuna, mimic luxury gym model

Advertisement A new generation of meditation studios is popping up with features that mimic luxury gyms – but purely for your mind. Nestled on the fringe of Sydney’s CBD in Barangaroo is MYND Studios, which opened last week offering about 20 different teacher-led meditation classes throughout the day, with the aim of attracting city workers to sign up to its $50 weekly membership. The bright, large studio is carefully designed to promote calm, with a moss wall, nap pods and a post-class relaxation lounge. MYND Studios opened last week in Sydney’s Barangaroo.
