Twenty community leaders have been selected for Class 33 of the Focus Agriculture program. This “first-in-the-nation” program is designed for community leaders to learn about agriculture in Santa Cruz County and the Pajaro Valley.
The backdrop might have been gray, but energy was high as the Santa Cruz County Fair opened for the first day of the five-day extravaganza the community looks forward to every year.
There are a few certainties every September: a drop in the weather, the emergence of pumpkin-flavored products, the start of football season and, for Santa Cruz County, the blend of thrill rides, performances, exhibitions and community spirit, all mixed together for the Santa Cruz County Fair.
The Santa Cruz County Fair will return Sept. 13-17 with the theme "Home Grown and Locally Shown" and the usual assortment of carnival rides, contests, entertainment and culinary favorites such as cinnamon rolls and fried artichokes that fairgoers have come to expect for generations.
