The extraordinary
From Landi Kotal to Wagah (UNESCO and Sang-e-Meel, 2021) mixes in equal measure excellent photography and storytelling to merit a status above that of the average coffee-table book that is more frills than substance.
Its storyteller is Salman Rashid, Pakistan’s preeminent travel-writer, who is also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. The traveler in him blends with the historian and ethnographer to tell a hitherto untold story of the Grand Trunk Road connecting Peshawar to Lahore. ISLAMABAD: The government is aiming to achieve herd immunity by vaccinating 70 million people against Covid-19 by the end of the current year. About 30 million people will be vaccinated by September.
This was stated by representatives of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) about the ruling party’s policy on vaccination and management of the impact of Covid-19 on education and economy at a session organised by Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (Pildat) at a local hotel on Thursday.
Party’s central joint secretary Mussadiq Ghumman, parliamentary secretary national health services Dr Nausheen Hamid and others attended the session.

ABBOTTABAD: With the death of a former professor of medicine Dr Hassan Shehzad in the Ayub Teaching Hospital, the death toll from coronavirus has risen to 196 in the Hazara division, with 110 fatalities alone in Abbottabad.
Also, positive cases have increased up to 7,245 out of total 82,017 cases screened while 4,333 cases are still awaited. Dr Hassan Shehzad was the 32nd doctor who lost life to coronavirus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the daily situation report, Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad has a higher number of coronavirus cases where out of the total 776 patients, 609 have recovered. Up to 73 are active cases while 96 patients died so far.

PESHAWAR: The coronavirus on Saturday claimed the life of another doctor in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, taking the toll of doctors who have died of the infectious disease to 28 in the province.
The latest victim was a noted female pathologist, Prof Zaibun Nisa.
She had been suffering from the viral infection for the last few days and was admitted to the Northwest General Hospital in Peshawar, where she died.
Prof Zaibun Nisa had retired as head of pathology department of the Khyber Medical College (KMC) Peshawar and later joined the Kabir Medical College Peshawar as chairperson of its pathology section.
