A KEIGHLEY school has found a novel way to keep literacy alive during lockdown. Teachers at Holy Family have been reading stories for students and placing the audio recordings online as part of English remote provision. With libraries and bookshops currently closed, the initiative is offering all students between 11 and 18 the chance to enjoy age-relevant novels at the click of a button. ‘Bookflix and Litflix’ organiser Zebun Javed, an English teacher and the literacy co-ordinator at Holy Family, said: “Judging by the number of ‘listens’, the scheme has been incredibly popular. It proves no one is too old to enjoy listening to a story. There is something hypnotic and wonderful about being read to. The teachers too have enjoyed sharing their love of literature and revisiting outstanding fiction such as Mallory Blackman’s Noughts and Crosses.”
