Waring, who just turned 25, on Monday (May 3) said he happened to be in Reno, Nev., about an hour away, for an industrial ropes course that ended the day before the Squaw Valley competition. Friends who were also ski patrollers had told him about the competition, he said. Whistler used to do something similar in the past, Waring said. Squaw Valley has also hosted something along these lines before, and I think this was their first attempt to make it bigger and better.
Waring said he believes he was the only Canadian who took part. He said a couple of Australians who live in the Tahoe area also competed.
