NZNO Insists On Good Faith Bargaining In Light Of Pay Restraint

Wednesday, 12 May 2021, 1:59 pm The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) says it’s ironic that, on the eve of the International Day of the Nurse, it had to attend a meeting with Government to defend its members’ right to be treated in good faith while negotiating their multi-employer collective agreement with the district health boards. NZNO Industrial Services Manager Glenda Alexander said this flies in the face of the massive contribution nurses, midwives, health care assistants and kaimahi hauora in Aotearoa New Zealand and around the world have made during the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. We applaud each and every one of

Nurses Extremely Disappointed At Pay Freeze Announcement

Thursday, 6 May 2021, 5:29 pm NZNO says health care workers across Aotearoa New Zealand are extremely disappointed following the government’s pay freeze announcement. Despite being on the frontline for COVID-19, Nurses, midwives, healthcare assistants and kaimahi hauora employed by District Health Boards (DHB) could all be affected by the announcement. NZNO Industrial Services Manager Glenda Alexander says she is seriously concerned about the impact of the policy on NZNO s work to resolve gender pay issues within nursing and midwifery. This announcement could set back our efforts to resolve the longstanding undervaluation of our members’ work, especially regarding pay rates for nurses.

Nurses Find First DHB Collective Agreement Offer Completely Unacceptable

Monday, 12 April 2021, 10:39 am The nearly 30,000 district health board (DHB) members of the New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) have received the first DHB offer in their multi-employer collective agreement (MECA) negotiations, which began last year. In a survey of the affected membership the overwhelming feedback was that this offer would be rejected out of hand. These nurses, midwives, health care assistants (HCAs) and kaimahi hauora say the offer fails to recognise the tremendous workload and highly pressurised working conditions they endure and will do nothing to address the DHB staffing crisis that puts themselves and patients in peril. Lead Advocate and NZNO Industrial Advisor David

NZNO To Picket Labtests Auckland Office

Friday, 12 March 2021, 12:56 pm After ongoing negotiations with Labtests since September last year and mediation in late January, NZNO members have voted to take picket action and commence a 24 hour strike ballot NZNO organiser Sarah Barker says the decision comes after members rejected two offers which failed to even bring the starting rates up to a living wage. Once members rejected the first offer of two percent, Labtests indicated this week they had another offer to present. This offer did not improve the base pay and in fact for some steps was lower than their initial offer, leaving members angry and disappointed.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern Must Hear Nurses On Their Own Terms

Friday, 12 February 2021, 5:54 pm The New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) is urging Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to invest time into hearing real stories from frontline MIQ nurses and other health workers. The Prime Minister has stated publicly that frontline MIQ workers are being prioritised, but NZNO believes the Government is not listening to nurses’ voices so there is little trust on the part of these health workers. During the first and second waves of COVID we don’t feel that the Ministry of Health responded to the matters we raised in a timely way. NZNO has repeatedly alerted the Government to issues of concern to
