"Echoes and Empires" by Morgan Rhodes is great escapist fare especially for those who've never tried a book in the fantasy genre because its world, the Empire of Regara, isn't all that different from our own. There are cellphones, cars and boutiques in this world. The characters who populate it also speak and act in familiar ways.
