Woman s body recovered from Chitral river - Newspaper

CHITRAL: The body of a married woman, who had allegedly committed suicide in Torkhow area of Upper Chitral, was recovered from a river near Nishko village here on Tuesday. A Rescue 1122 official told Dawn that the woman was reportedly suffering from mental illness. He said the woman ended her life by jumping into river. The official said that search for her had been going on for last two days. He said that Rescue 1122 swimmers faced difficulty in tracing out the body as the river was in high floods due to melting of glaciers. Separately, the residents of Reshun village, whose land was acquired by the National Highway Authority (NHA) for construction of a diversion for the Chitral-Booni Road, have demanded payment of compensation.

(Photo: India Today/Samarth Srivastava) Taking action against an accused in the Aligarh hooch tragedy which has claimed as many as 36 lives, police officials demolished part of the alleged liquor mafia’s property on Tuesday. According to sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Koli, Ranjeet Singh, the accused Digambar had constructed a tubewell in Lodha village, on a plot of government land. As per the SDM’s order, a bulldozer was sent in to demolish the illegally constructed tubewell. The district administration is determined to crackdown on liquor mafia, SDM Singh said.
