Court extends detention for former Chief of Kyrgyz President s Administration
AKIPRESS.COM - The detention period for former Chief of President s Administration Farid Niyazov was extended for 2 months in accordance with the ruling of the Pervomaiskiy district court, Kunduz Joldubaeva said.
Farid Niyazov will remain in the remand prison until June 10, 2021.
Farid Niyazov was detained following storming of residence of ex-President Almazbek Atambayev in Koi-Tash village on August 7-8, 2019. During post-election protests in October 2020, he was released from custody along with other cronies of ex-President Atambayev. On October 10, Niyazov was taken into custody again on suspicion of organization of mass disorders at Ala-Too square on October 9, 2020.

Atambaev s lawyer Zamir Jooshev told RFE/RL that the Birinchi Mai district court, on February 4, again rejected the defense team s motion to transfer the 64-year-old politician to house arrest.
Atambaev was sentenced to 11 years and two months in prison in June 2020 over his involvement in the release of a notorious crime boss.
In November, the Supreme Court sent the case back to a Bishkek district court for retrial. The reason for the decision was not immediately given.
Atambaev has denied any wrongdoing.
In early October, he was released from custody as the country was rocked by mass protests against the official results of parliamentary elections.
