President Edgar Lungu has sworn in Patrick Mutale as Chairperson of the Police Public Complaints Commission.
President Lungu has also sworn in Brigadier General Dr. Frida Sakala Kazembe (Rtd) as Chairperson of the Zambia Correctional Service Commission.
“With regards to you Mr. Mutale, you are taking over the mantle of presiding over the affairs of the Police Public Complaints Commission at a very critical time when the political mood in the country is all but focused on the 2021 general elections. The Authority should, therefore, prepare adequately to receive and resolve complaints from the public fairly but firmly,” President Lungu said.
Zambia Correctional Service Commissioner General, Chisela Chileshe says government remains committed to ensuring that incarcerated members of the public are reformed and equipped with various survival skills, as they leave the correctional facilities.
Addressing inmates during his tour of Chaola Open Prison in Rufunsa district yesterday, Dr. Chileshe said government is devoted to ensuring that Correctional Centres reform the inmates and introduce them to different skills such as farming, carpentry, and tailoring among other survival skills.
He noted that the authority changed the name from prisons to correctional service centres in order to make it easier to reform wrong doers or offenders of the law, into good citizens through introducing them to different skills that will enable them contribute positively to national development.

FORMER Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) commissioner general Percy Chato says some stakeholders will cry foul following the outcome of next year’s general election because there’s lack of adequate regulation regarding inmates voting.
And UPND national chairperson Mutale Nalumango says there was no need to rush into allowing inmates to vote because there is no legal mechanism to guarantee a free and fair vote in correctional facilities.
On Monday, ZCS Commissioner General Dr Chisela Chileshe said that physical presence was not the only mode of campaigning in correctional facilities, explaining that leaflets and the media could be used to reach out to inmates.
MINISTER of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo has expressed utmost sympathy on the death of the two Zambian Citizens who died from ‘gun shot wound’ during a fracas yesterday as police tried to contain United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres who went to Zambia Police Headquarters to show solidarity their leader, Mr. Hakainde Hichilema when he appeared for questioning.
Speaking during a media briefing today in Chinsali, Mr. Kampyongo said President Edgar Lungu and the government are saddened by the death of State Prosecutor Nsama Nsama and the other supporter (not yet identified) who got shot during the fracas.
Mr. Kampyongo assured on behalf of the President that no more blood would be shed going forward.
