congress is under way. and it didn t take long for tea party members to flex their new political muscle. a top republican leader was forced to backtrack on the always-krovrls issue of ear marxes. senator mitch mcconnell had long defended that process. but no more. banning earmarks is another small but important symbolic step that we can take to show beer serious. in a strange bit of political theater, the earmark issue put tea party members and the white house on the same side. president obama praised mcconnell s move. in the house, another bizarre bit of politics was playing out. veteran congressman, charlie rangel, walked out of his ethics trial, after saying he had no lawyer. that didn t stop the committee from hearing evidence against rangel. reporter: when congressman rangel arrived to his trial, he had one strategy, delay and plead for a postponement. 50 years of public service is on the line. i truly believe that i m not being treated fairly. and that his
