Two chefs, Ivan and Israel, prepare pizza behind the counter at Pinnochio’s Pizza and Subs on Winthrop Street. Pinnochio’s has often been a late-night favorite in Harvard Square, but as of late November 2021, only take-out orders can be placed after 9:30 p.m.
Though most students, faculty, and staff do not yet have access to Harvardâs new Science and Engineering Complex due to Covid-19 restrictions, The Crimson was granted access to tour the eight-story SEC Monday, guided by School of Engineering and Applied Sciences spokesperson Paul Karoff.
Situated across more than five acres with a maximum occupancy of around 2,000 people, the SEC plans for a full opening to students in fall 2021. Construction for the complex started more than five years ago and cost roughly $1 billion to complete. Faculty at SEAS started their move into the new building in Allston in November 2020, but most have yet to unpack their belongings.
Harvard students reacted with disappointment and frustration after President Joe Biden said on Feb. 16 he would not forgive more than $10,000 in federal student loan debt per borrower, singling out Harvard as an institution whose students did not require debt relief.
In a CNN town hall in Milwaukee, Biden said he was unwilling to address top Democratsâ calls to raise debt forgiveness to $50,000 per borrower. Biden also said he was unwilling to forgive âthe billions of dollars of debtâ for individuals who attended âHarvard and Yale and Penn.â
âI will not make that happen,â Biden said in response to an audience member who asked what he would do to push for $50,000 in debt forgiveness.
In late January, The Hasty Pudding Theatricals hosted their Woman and Man of the Year Ceremonies which honored Elizabeth Banks and Ben Platt. Following tradition, Elizabeth Banks rolled down Massachusetts Avenue in a Rolls Royce during the Woman of the Year parade, which was followed by a roast and press conference inside Farkas Hall.
On the first day of classes in the spring semester, nine graduate and undergraduate student activist organizations gathered in the Science Center lobby to hold a âReorientation Rally.â The groups said the rallyâs various participants shared a common interest in fighting for social justice on campus. Their statement concluded, âToday is only the beginning. So, we are calling on every Harvard student, worker, and faculty member to join us in this fight. We cannot win without you.â
