Amazon.com is being hailed by the cultural elite for a new series called “Transparent,” about a 70-year-old father of three who decides he’s a woman named Maura. There are no content warnings for this. There is only progressive euphoria. TV critics and the wider media are falling all over themselves expressing glory and praise for this cultural landmark. Willa Paskin at the liberal website Slate is a perfect example. “To call it Amazon’s first great series, or the only great series of the new fall season – both of which are true – is to damn it with faint praise.”
In the sprawling, 6,000-square-foot former Etsy buildign, Hudson's avant garde fashion boutique Kasuri carries an expanded collection of apparel alongside objets d’art and a selection of books of intrigue. Also inside, a tattoo artist and a queer bookstore. Creative director Osofsky hopes to use the space for programming and queer community events.
