final touches for william donald schaefer s funeral. tonight the final details fall into place. tomorrow maryland says goodbye. hello everybody i m denise koch and here is what people are indeed talking about tonight. in less than 12 hours the official goodbye for maryland s beloved governor william donald schaefer. wjz is live, adam may joins us from city hall where schaefer still lies in repose. reporter: city hall is governor schaefer s home away from home and it s where he wanted to spend his last evening before rejoining a companion he loved so much. the body of william donald schaefer spends a final night in the rotunda at city hall. for hours, people stood in line to say goodbye. he was the grandfather of baltimore city. there they could have only made one of him. you have to share the respects, because he was such a great man. he did some many wonderful things for the city. just irreplaceable, there ll never be anybody like him. reporter: in the morning
politicians maryland as ever has ever known. feels like an uncle or somebody like that, somebody from that was a family member almost to a certain degree. it s just like this, we have lost one of the greatest flowers of all. reporter: whether they knew him personally or not, he touched them and they wanted him to know just how much. he was a grandfather of baltimore city, he loved the city like it was his own home and always was and always will be. it shows you that he reached everyone like everyone could tell that he had a good heart. the way he acted, the way he got things done and he did so much for the city. reporter: and for that, the people are grateful. they know william donald schaefer was one of a kind, defining public service for a generation. wasn t about the politics or the perks. he cared about this city and he cared about this state. and he cared more about the people. there will be no other like him. and the music you heard was from his al
