There’s an old, long-debunked fallacy about aging curves with baseball players that more or less follows that 27 is the magical age when many players “break out” because they re at their physical peaks. Players generally peak in their late twenties, though the myth around the specific age of 27 tends to get people excited about talented players approaching that prophesied number.
One player cannot outweigh stringent statistical analysis, yet we’re nearly a month into the season and these two things are true: Byron Buxton is 27 years old, and Byron Buxton is absolutely raking.

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Trevor Bauer was presented his 2020 Cy Young Award this week before his new squad faced his former team, the Cincinnati Reds.
The Dodgers could use a vintage Bauer performance when he starts the first game of a four-game series on Thursday night against the host Milwaukee Brewers.
Clayton Kershaw threw seven shutout innings Wednesday in Los Angeles 8-0 victory, allowing the Dodgers to avoid a three-game sweep by the Reds. He s been the ace, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Kershaw. He knew how much we needed this game, so for him to go deep in this game, put up zeros, throw a shutout, was big for our club.

MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) â The Miami Marlins took advantage of Brewer pitcherâs wildness and a bizarre âobstructionâ call and beat Milwaukee 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon at American Family Field.
Brewer pitchers issued 10 walks in the game including five by starter Zack Godley. Godley, starting for the injured Brett Anderson gave up four runs, three earned in 3 innings with five walks and five strikeouts. He left the game after injuring his hand during a bunt attempt.
The Marlins scored twice in the 2nd inning after first base umpire Marty Foster called a phantom obstruction call on Godley as he fielded a ball on the first base side. Replay did not show any obstruction although Foster continued to claim after the game that there was. Craig Counsell called it a âterrible callâ. He said âit never happened and cost us a runâ. âI have no idea what Marty was making up thereâ.
